Cleanings & Exams

Cleanings and examinations are among the standard services that we perform every six months as a part of our patients’ check-ups. During these appointments, we will thoroughly clean and polish the teeth – carefully removing any accumulation of plaque or tartar along the gum line. Once this is complete, we will conduct a thorough examination. This will allow us to identify any concerns and present feedback regarding treatment options as soon as possible.

Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are restorative prosthetics that are custom designed to encapsulate a critically damaged tooth. Once placed, crowns are capable of effectively restoring function and appearance while also preserving the health of the natural tooth; securely encased inside the crown, the tooth is safe from further harm, and the need for extraction is avoided.

At our office, dental crowns are crafted from porcelain. Porcelain is remarkably durable and capable of matching the shade and texture of surrounding teeth. Additionally, the material is non-porous – allowing it to retain its color without staining over time. Porcelain crowns can last well beyond 15 years when properly maintained. Night Guards

Night guards are dental appliances designed to be worn overnight for the purpose of alleviating symptoms of bruxism; this can include grinding the teeth and clenching the jaw. The night guard is custom-designed to comfortably slip over the upper or lower teeth and form a protective barrier, preventing the tendency of these teeth to make contact with one another. By wearing a night guard, patients that suffer from grinding or clenching can relieve tension in the jaw and prevent damage to their teeth.

Athletic Mouthguards

Athletic mouthguards are rather similar to night guards in that they serve the purpose of protecting the teeth; however, the two options are designed for entirely different needs and circumstances. While night guards are rather delicate appliances that are slim yet highly efficient for preventing teeth grinding, mouthguards are designed for much more intensive use. Athletic mouthguards are constructed to absorb impact to the facial region – protecting the teeth, gums, jawbone, and facial tissues from damage.

Athletic mouthguards are highly recommended for our patients who participate in high-intensity sports activities, such as football, boxing, and lacrosse. Wearing a mouthguard can significantly reduce the chances of a collision resulting in tooth loss, jaw fracture, or lip/tongue injury.

Tooth Extraction

A tooth extraction is a procedure that is reserved only for situations in which it is deemed necessary for the patient’s health. As we recognize that keeping a tooth intact is preferable in most cases, there are many situations in which tooth removal is truly the best option – this may include:

  • Wisdom teeth impaction
  • Severely decayed tooth
  • Extensive tooth damage
  • Overcrowding

In either of the above cases, our team will carefully craft an extraction plan to remove the tooth or teeth. This may be performed employing either simple or surgical techniques.

  • Simple extractions are performed on teeth that are easily accessible within the oral cavity.
  • Surgical extractions are used to access and remove teeth that have not yet emerged from the gum tissue.

Either extraction plan will be supported by our advanced 3D imaging system – ensuring we remove these teeth as gently as possible while minimizing tissue trauma. This allows for a smooth procedure with a quick recovery.

Root Canals

Once a tooth has been compromised by decay or injury that has reached the interior of the tooth, an infection can quickly develop – leading to pain, swelling, and severe temperature sensitivity. Root canals are procedures that are performed to remove the interior contents of an infected tooth and cleanse the canals. While this may seem to be a rather invasive procedure, the treatment is actually fairly common, simple, and easy to perform; additionally, the root canal effectively alleviates pain rather than causing it.

  • The treatment begins with the tooth and surrounding tissue being thoroughly numbed by a local anesthetic.
  • Once this is complete, we will create a tiny opening in the tooth to access the infected pulp; the pulp includes the nerves and tissues inside the tooth.
  • After removing the pulp, we will carefully clean the tooth’s root canals to remove any remnants of the infection.
  • The tooth will then be filled with a biocompatible material called gutta-percha. This is to preserve the tooth structure and prevent further infection.
  • Finally, the tooth will be sealed and fitted with a dental crown, securing the health and integrity of the natural tooth.

TMJ Treatment

TMJ treatment is a service offered to patients experiencing pain, discomfort, or tension in the temporomandibular joint. This joint is a crucial anatomical element that allows the mouth to open and close, serving as a hinge between the upper and lower jaw. When the joint becomes inflamed, patients may experience jaw tenderness, headaches, locked jaw, or a popping sensation upon opening the mouth; this is known as temporomandibular joint dysfunction, or TMD. TMD may also cause patients to exhibit the symptoms of bruxism – teeth grinding and jaw clenching.

Our team is skilled in the ability to identify and treat TMD by first turning our focus to the source of the inflammation. With proper diagnosis, we can ensure that the patient is met with the proper course of treatment.

Oral Cancer Screening

Oral cancer is a malignant growth of cells that may target any area of the mouth; this includes the tongue, cheeks, gums, lips, or the surface/floor of the oral cavity. Symptoms of oral cancer include red or white patches inside the mouth, persistent sores or lumps in the mouth or along the lips, and pain or swelling in the face or mouth.

At Roswell Complete Dentistry, we take oral cancer seriously, and we perform an oral cancer screening as a part of every routine visit. During the screening, we may ask questions, thoroughly inspect your oral tissues, and examine your neck to detect enlarged lymph nodes. By taking these steps, we are able to identify and treat oral cancer early, thereby increasing the likelihood of a successful recovery.
