Composite Fillings

Fillings are an efficient and effective cosmetic dentistry treatment to replace lost tooth material. Whether you crack a tooth or need decay removed, dental fillings can protect the tooth from further damage. Old amalgam (silver) fillings were cost-effective for repairing teeth, but they did come with drawbacks. At Roswell Complete Dentistry, we offer composite fillings that are safe and color-matched to your teeth for advanced tooth repairs.

Amalgam fillings are no longer considered the best option for tooth repairs. They are unattractive, and they can turn the surrounding tooth material gray. In addition, amalgam contains mercury, which is a toxic metal that is best kept out of the body.

Composite fillings are white and do not contain mercury or other harmful substances. Most of our patients prefer the option of white fillings that keep their smile and teeth natural in color. Composite fillings are durable and can last for decades with good oral hygiene and preventive dentistry.

What is Composite Resin?

White fillings are made with dental composite resin. This material is a combination of plastics and ceramics to create a safe tooth material replacement. When a tooth needs to be repaired, composite resin can be applied to the area. The resin is soft and pliable before it is cured, making it easy to fill holes or cracks in the teeth. It comes in multiple shades that our dental team can match to your tooth color. Once the putty-like resin is applied to the tooth, we use a curing light to harden the filling. It is then polished to smooth and blend with the tooth surface.

Composite resin repairs teeth by filling areas that have been damaged. It can also be used to cosmetically change the tooth’s shape or to cover discolorations with dental bonding. Composite fillings and bonding can be completed in a short office visit.
