Dental Implants

Dental implants are artificial titanium roots that are placed into the jawbone to support a dental prosthesis, such as a crown, dental bridge, or full arch prosthetic. These pieces effectively restore the function, appearance, and health of the mouth following the loss of one or more teeth. Unlike dentures, which rest on top of the gums, or bridges, which rely on adjacent teeth for support, dental implants are securely anchored in the jawbone. This provides a much sturdier foundation for the artificial teeth and returns bite force close to that of natural teeth.

Dental implants have been used for many years to replace missing teeth. In fact, they were first used in the early 1960s. However, it wasn’t until the late 1980s and early 1990s that their use became more widespread. Today, dental implants are considered to be one of the most successful and dependable procedures in modern dentistry.

Dental Bridges

Dental bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth in a sequence. They are made from artificial teeth, called pontics, which are fused between two dental crowns. The crowns are then placed over the adjacent teeth and cemented into place to bridge the gap. In order to fit properly, these natural teeth must be contoured and reshaped so that the crowns encapsulate them. Once placed, the bridge can last up to seven years before requiring replacement.

Dentures

Dentures are removable dental appliances that can replace anywhere between a single tooth to a full arch of missing teeth. These devices are custom-made to fit snugly over your gums and can be easily inserted and removed from your mouth as needed. Dentures can help improve your ability to eat and speak and can also give you a boost of confidence by improving your smile.

  • If you are missing all of your teeth, a full denture can be made to replace them; full dentures are typically secured by either adhesive or suction.
  • If you are only missing a few teeth, a partial denture may be right for you. Partial dentures use a metal framework to fit the mouth comfortably and clasp onto neighboring teeth for support.
  • We also offer implant-supported dentures, which provide additional support as the denture snaps onto dental implants rather than using adhesive.

Our team can help you decide which type of denture is right for you. Denture appliances are easy to care for and can last many years with proper maintenance. If choosing dentures for your restoration, it is important for you to brush the dentures daily and visit our office regularly to ensure they are fitting properly and staying in great condition!
